Designed by architect Col. W. Ridgway-Wilson also designed the Bay Street Armoury It was built by the B.C.Construction and Engineering Co. of Victoria. During WWI it housed prisoners of war and naval offenders. It was closed in 1917 and the property was used as a pheasant farm. 1919-1964 it was the Colquitz Provincial Mental Home. It has now reverted to prison use, as the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre.
