Arthur James Richard Ash was born in 1906 in Brandon, Manitoba. He spent most of his life in Ottawa before moving to Saanich in 1946. Arthur Ash served as an army officer in World War II, and was stationed on the west coast from 1942 to 1943. He married Vera Maria Carnie at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria in 1943. They had two daughters, Cairine Jennifer and Christine Marie. Arthur Ash served as a BC MLA from 1948 to 1952. In 1956 he was elected Reeve of Saanich and was relected the following year. Arthur Ash resigned from office in 1958 and moved to Reno, Nevada for business, returning to Saanich in 1973. Arthur Ash died on January 15, 1988 at the age of 81.
