Biographical history

Duncan McTavish was the son of George Archibald McTavish and Catherine Amelia McTavish (daughter of J.S. Helmcken). Duncan McTavish was born in 1882 on the family farm, Ardmore Estate on West Saanich Road. This was in all probability the first nursery to be operated in Saanich or on the Island. It was also the first farm in Saanich to install a telephone. Duncan Mctavish died in 1967. The donor, Mrs. Pearce, was the daughter of Duncan McTavish; she passed away in 1984.
