Biographical history
Fable Cottage (5187 Cordova Bay Rd) was designed, built, and owned by Bernard and Billie Rogers. Construction began in 1951 and took 11 years to complete. Bernard Rogers was a cabinet maker. Woodwork on the cottage was done manually with an adze. The unusual home on the 3 1/2 acre property attracted many visitors. The Rogers', in an effort to control the public entering their property, decided to open it to the public in 1967 on a limited basis. This action, however, only increased the demand. Due to the lack of privacy, the Rogers' sold the property in 1969 to Bob and Anita Lane who expanded the attraction in 1975, adding gardens and a gift shop. In 1992, the property was sold to a townhouse developer who gave the house away on the condition that the new owner move it elsewhere. It was taken by Wesley Ritter to 6077 East Road on Denman Island to be restored.
