Biographical history

Henry Holmes was born in Buckinghamshire, England in 1870. He was a nurseryman and operated greenhouses on Burnside Road and Holland Avenue. He had at one time managed the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Esquimalt, and had been an active member of the Ward Four Conservative Association. He lived at 1010 Burnside Road West for 52 years and died there on April 7, 1954 at the age of 84.


Archival history

Donated in 2010 by June Dittmer, a co-owner of the property in the early 1990s. The material was found in the attic of the house at that time.

Fonds consists of household and financial records relating to Henry Holmes and his residence at 1010 Burnside Road West, and includes building permits, survey notes, receipts, invoices, tax notices and correspondence.
