In 1925 he went to work in the Ottawa Press Gallery, and in the same year married Dorothy Kidd McDiarmid. They had two children, Joan Edith and Robert Bruce, who were both raised in Saanich. In 1926 Bruce Hutchison built his home on land purchased from George Rogers. The house, located at 820 Rogers Avenue, is now a designated heritage building. He continued to write a weekly column, with his last column appearing in the Vancouver Sun on August 22, 1992. He received multiple Governor-General’s Awards for his writing and was made a Freeman of Saanich in 1990. Bruce Hutchison died in his Saanich home in 1992 at the age of 91.
