Ken Middleton began working at the District of Saanich with the Saanich Tax Department in 1947 and remained with the Municipality for 45 years. He was a member of the Saanich Special Events Committee for ca. 40 years including a number of years as Chairman. Ken Middleton served for over 25 years on the Saanich Civil Defence Program. He was also instrumental in the process to have the Saanich Coat of Arms sanctioned by the Queen’s College of Arms. In June 1992 he was recognized as a Freeman of Saanich. Ken Middleton was known as “Mr. Saanich”, and in May 2001 the outer courtyard of Saanich Municipal Hall was dedicated as “Middleton Plaza”. Ken Middleton died on October 31, 2003.
