Biographical history
Horace Draper was born in 1925 in Ottawa. He served with the Canadian Navy during the Second World War, then worked as a draughtsman and photographer with the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory for over 25 years. He died in 2005.

The photographs in this collection were received from Horace Draper in 1992. Some of the photographs are from glass plate negatives discovered at the Observatory in 1978, while others were taken by Horace Draper in the 1950s.

Collection consists of photographs from 1915 to 1918 showing teamsters hauling the telescope to the Observatory, and the construction of the Observatory. Includes aerial views of the Observatory, and exterior views taken in the 1950s.
