Biografie

Under Mayor Mel Couvelier, Saanich celebrated 75 years of incorporation (1906-1981) with a series of events. Projects included the writing of a Saanich history and song and construction of a parade float. Pioneers (50 and 75 year residents) were honoured at a strawberry tea at the Saanich Senior Citizens' Centre (Les Passmore Centre) on July 19, 1981. The 75th anniversary celebrations were coordinated by the eight volunteer members of the Special Events / 75th Anniversary Committee. The Saanich flag was created in 1983.

The fonds includes an album containing photographs, news clippings, ephemera, and correspondence; textual records including administrative files, pioneer lists, guest books, and flag designs submitted for evaluation; sound recordings in various formats; booklets; and commemorative pins and ribbons.
