        Charles Staples came to Victoria from England in 1913 at the age of nine. He attended Tolmie School, and later began his association with cycling by getting a job at Peden Bros., a bicycle shop owned by Bob and Tom Peden. Mr. Staples was a competitive cyclist and a founder of the Colonist Bicycle Road Race. He was a Saanich employee for a number of years in the Public Works Department and the Fire Department.
